Thinking Global: Creative partnership with Arizona State University students

Some of NBRSARCHITECTURE’s brightest young minds spent a day exchanging design & research ideas with architecture students from Arizona State University. The students are part of a studio group of multidisciplinary students from ASU who are currently on a two week intensive research case study in Australia. On returning to Arizona, they will embark on a real design project for Native American Culture.

Alex Harrington, Tiffany Liew and Veronica Ho (Student Architects at NBRSARCHITECTURE) shared insights from the research publications they produced through the ENVISION program. Alex’s insights from her involvement in the 2030 Cycle of Wellness (2012) was especially useful in the discussion of creating preventative health environments. The group discussed the potential for architects to broaden the functionality of traditional healthcare institutions and create community spaces that engage people in their own health and empower them to live healthier lives.

Daina Cunningham (Architectural Graduate at NBRSARCHITECTURE) presented her final design project from university which was a hybrid community and office building for the La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council. The crux of the project was the empowerment of the Indigenous community through architecture as a living, breathing entity, with which the community can engage. The ASU students were amazed at the parallels between culture, challenges and opportunities for Australian and North American indigenous peoples.

At NBRSARCHITECTURE we are excited to forge this creative partnership with the Arizona State University students and to continue to share insights and innovative design concepts over the coming months. We are eager to be involved in collaboration & thinking that produces built environments that have a positive effect on people’s lives.
