A world- first in Educational Facilities Standards & Guidelines
The NSW Department of Education and Communities (DEC) has nominated NBRSARCHITECTURE as the primary consultants in a project which involves the conversion of the current School Facilities Standards (SFS) into a set of Educational Facilities Standards & Guidelines (EFSG). NBRS is at the forefront in creating a world-first School Facilities Guidelines presented in a web-based system.
As a multi-disciplinary architectural practice, NBRS has a strong history in educational projects which has led to a sound understanding of all aspects of school design. We understand the importance of establishing the appropriate spatial requirements and recommendations to support a variety of learning modes. This experience and knowledge will be invaluable in the evaluation and compilation of the EFSG, due to its focus on school design principles.
The transition from standards to guidelines attempts to encourage design rationale to be more transparent and user-friendly to allow for greater flexibility in design solutions.
The NBRS team, led by Garry Hoddinett & James Ward, will provide an online set of learner-centred guidelines to aid the design of modern learning environments within NSW. The accessibility of this EFSG platform is unprecedented from both a technical and pedagogical perspective.
As lead consultant on the job, NBRS will work in creative partnership with a range of consultants to update the guidelines. We will also collaborate with leading digital agency, Sitback Soutions to achieve a contemporary and intuitive website that is user-focused, enabling a variety of user types to navigate through the School Facilities Guidelines with ease.
The look and function of learning environments have changed dramatically with time and as leaders in the design of educational facilities, NBRS is perfectly positioned to deliver new Educational Facilities Standards & Guidelines that are in step with these 21st Century learning environments.
