Sourced from the Architecture AU article on The University of Sydney Campus Improvement Plan, Green light for Sydney Uni’s $1.4 billion master plan, NBRS look further at their involvement in this multi-million dollar upgrade.
Globally, Universities are in the race to create the most internationally attractive world class facilities, comprising a collation of innovative teaching and learning spaces, functional accommodation, leading service hubs and visually impressive grounds.
Under the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, multiple Architecture and Design firms have come together to create a six key precinct master plan which aims to progress The University of Sydney into a future of enriched education, growth in student numbers and growth in jobs.
One of the new projects under the Campus Improvement Plan is the master plan for the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology. NBRS have been awarded this master plan project drawing from its team of urban designer, higher education planners, architects, and landscape architects to respond to the Faculty’s aspirations and population projections for the next 10 years.
The development in the master plan opens up a realm of possibilities for university members and non-university members, with the entire plan aiming to;
“See the university increase its student population by 10,000 as well as accommodate an extra 4,000 students on campus. Economically, it is expected to generate 15,000 jobs during construction phase and create 400 permanent positions afterwards.”
NBRS continues its long standing relationship with The University of Sydney through past projects such as the Economics School, Anderson Stuart School of Medicine and the School of Psychology. NBRS is a research based Architectural design practice with specialists in Higher Education, Facilities and Master Planning. Our fundamental understanding about learning spaces enables the creation of leading infrastructure in a global context.
