‘Swing Glow’ in Vivid Sydney 2015
NBRSARCHITECTURE together with Fiona Venn have collaborated in creating the exciting, interactive installation for Vivid Sydney 2015, Swing Glow. Vivid, a festival of light, music and ideas, showcases excellence in creativity, placing artwork all over Sydney city in the form of interactive installations, light shows, concerts and ideas seminars. Swing Glow encourages the young, and the young at heart, to play on illuminated swings which, as they soar into the night, create momentary artworks of colour and light.
Through an in-house design competition, student Architects from the NBRS (ENVISION team) were given the opportunity to design an interactive installation for Vivid Sydney 2015. Student Architect, Tiffany Liew, was successful in her render of an illuminated swing set. Having gained inspiration from various light artworks around the world, the idea of two swings moving in opposition to each other would not only create individual artworks, but combined would create a unique artwork of colour and light.
The light display is also invigorated through sound; music changes pace as people take off and land, heightening the interactive element of the installation. NBRS has collaborated with music artist, Mickey Kojak, to produce a unique sound experience in sync with the visual artwork.
Andrew Leuchars, Landscape Architect at NBRS has implemented his landscape expertise in designing the structure for the installation, working with manufacturers to ensure a functional and aesthetic outcome. In collaboration, NBRS Interior Designer Hung-Ying Foong Gill has engaged her knowledge of lighting to assist in achieving the ultimate vision of an artwork of colour and lights.
NBRS has also had the chance to work with multiple sponsors in creating this installation. Teams from Moduplay, Philips, Yamaha, WSP Group, HR Designs, SDA Structures and Star Group have assisted and provided materials for the design and construction of Swing Glow.
NBRS is excited to share with Sydney this stimulating interactive installation where users can engage and create their own work of art.
Swing Glow will be located within First Fleet Park in Circular Quay. Lights turn on for the first time on May 22nd at 6pm.
