NBRS MAMA – A MAGNA Winner
“Well visioned, wholly encapsulating visitor experience that is an experience both within and without the building.” Judges Comments MAGNA
MAMA has been named the national winner for 2016’s MAGNA Award for best Permanent Exhibition or Gallery Fitout. The Murray Art Museum Albury, more fondly known as MAMA, continues to reign in praises, this time for its new interiors. Interior Designer Hung-Ying Gill, Architects Garry Hoddinett and John Baker, and Senior Heritage Consultant Pam Jeffery were the design leaders from NBRSARCHITECTURE who ensured design excellence of the recently reopened art gallery, which is now a MAGNA winner.
The Museums and Galleries National Awards (MAGNA), which began in 2011, aims to recognise excellent work across Australia to inspire improvement and innovation in the development of Australian Museums and Galleries.
The judges have praised the art gallery as an “experience both within and without the building.” NBRS enhanced a BHA design to seamlessly connect the Heritage listed Art Gallery and Burrows House with a new state of the art auditorium, cafe, museum shop and open lawn. The judges also bring to the spotlight that the building supports tourism and educational objectives. Since more than doubling in size, MAMA is now home to seven flexible exhibition spaces, an education workshop and permanent collection storage.
MAMA’s award-winning experience brings to life NBRSARCHITECTURE’s focus on creating life changing environments.
