NBRSARCHITECTURE. and CHROFI Submit Unique and Exciting Design Concept for Goulburn Performing Arts Centre
“This proposal offers much more than a flexible theatre space – it offers a diverse range of public spaces that contribute to the life of the community” – Rodney Drayton (NBRS)
In June 2016, NBRSARCHITECTURE teamed up with CHROFI to deliver a design submission for Goulburn Performing Arts Centre. The combination of NBRS’ depth of experience in performing arts and community buildings in conjunction with CHROFI’s globally recognised achievements provided a well-equipped and qualified team. Our collaborative design offered an exciting opportunity to develop the existing civic centre environment, with respect to the heritage listed Town Hall, by extending the music, drama and dance experience for the community and its guests.
The concept proposal for the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre outlined a design strategy for a regional performance hub, acknowledging the importance of the former McDermott Centre Town Hall as an essential component of Goulburn’s Heritage precinct. Rather than propose an extension to the former town hall, NBRS and CHROFI created a design featuring a unique dialogue between the two buildings.
By incorporating elements such as a courtyard and rooftop evening space, the site has potential to be activated by the community through a rich and varied calendar of events. From small art shows, rooftop cinemas, and craft markets this proposal offers much more than a flexible theatre space – it offers a modern, comfortable, fully accessible and acoustically excellent performing arts centre with a diverse range of public spaces that contribute to the life of the community.
