James Ward Keynote Speaker at Sydney Build Expo

James Ward Keynote Speaker at Sydney Build Expo

Mar 29, 2018 | Posted by NBRS ARCHITECTURE | Innovation |

On March 15th and 16th the Sydney Build Expo was held at the Royal Hall of Industries at Moore Park. On the first day NBRS Director of Strategy & Finance James Ward presented a keynote speech “Modular Fast & Smart, Buildings for All Occasions”. NBRS is at the forefront of modular design and has implemented modular construction across a number of recent projects;

  • St George’s Christian School in Hurstville, Sydney
  • Cairnsfoot School for Special Needs in Brighton-Le-Sands, Sydney
  • Tiny Homes – low cost accommodation in Gosford NSW

James discussed the advantages of Modular design and the way in which it provides a fast, efficient and adaptable form of construction.

The talk also highlighted the vast range of situations that modular construction suits. From education spaces, to homes to justice spaces, modular systems are versatile and adaptable.

As they are created in a factory they are not exposed to the outdoors and thus are not impacted by weather factors. Being built indoors they also are able to be constructed to a higher quality with a higher manufacturing and construction control.

Tracing the history of modular construction into the present, he presented a number of ways in which modular design allows streamlined construction periods and reduces costs. For example, case studies from the United States show the way in which modular construction has reduced life cycle costs down 40%.

In this way modular projects are able to respond to the growing need for homes, schools and other facilities with Australia’s growing population in a way that is fast, affordable and of a high quality. NBRS thanks Sydney Build Expo for the opportunity to present insights into modular construction.
