International Design Competition – Honorable Mention
NBRSARCHITECTURE has designed a new Secondary School for Benga Parish in Malawi. 500 entries from 71 countries were submitted to an international design competition to expand an existing complex currently with a primary school, accommodation and church.
The NBRS design draws from the woven textures and patterns found in the Malawi culture. Key to any design approach is contextualizing the community and environment. A community woven together is as strong as all the strands making a weave: faith, education, socialization, and habitation.
Through patterns, roof forms, and site layout, the three main zones are woven together: Learning Spaces, Student Dormitories, and Teacher Residences.
From the international field of 500 entries, NBRS made it through to the judges final 50 and then our design ranked within the top 15 receiving an honorable mention.
The Woven design idea reflects the NBRS way of creating environmental, supportive, cohesive and contextual solutions. We are continually refining our design and presentation skills and to receive such a high ranking amongst an international field shows design clarity within the education sector.
