Knox Junior Academy and Performing Arts Centre Opens
NBRSARCHITECTURE are delighted to announce the opening of the Knox Grammar School Junior Academy and Performing Arts Centre (JAPAC). The building has a range of functions that not only support the performing arts strength of the school but also provides a hub for boys in Years 7 and 8.
The performing arts auditorium is the jewel of the new building, with over 750 seats and specifically designed for music and theatre. It features a customisable orchestra pit, specialised lighting and sound design to perfectly compliment the large stage. Concurrently the new building is home to a purpose built drama theatre, dance studio and large music rehearsal rooms.
“The acoustic consultant commented on the acoustic clarity of orchestral instruments, and of all performers was great, and the sound from the Orchestra pit was beyond expectations.”
Each learning environment is designed to maximise the quality and learning outcomes within each space. From dedicated acoustically balanced and sound proofed music rooms to professional-quality recording studios each boy at Knox will have every opportunity to experience industry level facilities.
The Junior Academy provides a space for boys transitioning from primary school to more senior years to feel supported and learn to collaborate and study. The new recreation spaces for Years 7 and 8 will allow the students to bond in a supportive and inclusive environment, creating bonds that will carry through their entire schooling career.
