Rethinking Rehabilitation: Security and Safety through Design
NBRSARCHITECTURE design intent was to create a rehabilitative, campus style facility. Additionally with a focus on open space reflective of community based non-custodial facilities. At the same time maintaining a secure perimeter, sight lines and staff oversight of prisoners at all times. Located in Castlemaine, in regional Victoria the 260 bed Restricted Minimum Security Prison is a standalone annexe to the main Loddon Medium Security Prison. The new facility includes a range of prisoner services for prisoners of this classification, including a visits centre, health facility, education and program delivery spaces, recreational facilities and a large industry workshop.
