Our Lady’s Nurses of the Poor
Coogee, NSW
Reinvigorating a place of Living and Worship
NBRSARCHITECTURE created the provision of residential accommodation and administration facilities for a Catholic order of nuns. The Sisters of Our Lady’s Nurses for the Poor, have been on the site since the early 20th century. Central to the design is the retention and refurbishment of the existing Mt Dudley timber cottage. This represents significant value to the Sisters. Additionally the cottage was carefully restored and the new residential facility delicately connects with the old in a way that focuses attention on the foundation of the order.
Finally, the design responds to the functional requirements of accommodation, whilst maintaining the continuation of the Sister’s service and clear definition of the Place of Pilgrimage.
