Client: Australian Postal Corporation Location: Maitland, NSW
NBRSARCHITECTURE was asked to design a new exterior colour scheme for this Victorian Italianate post office at Maitland. The building is listed as a heritage item at three levels of government, and is within a conservation area of a significant commercial street. NBRS undertook a paint scrape through the paint layers to determine the early colour schemes of the building. A new colour scheme was developed referencing the early colours, making some variation for using darker colours in the places that typically become marked in their early use. The c-olours on the Victorian building were also slightly varied to contrast harmoniously with the new colour schemes selected for the 1930s buildings on either side that are part of the Maitland Post Office complex.
